Ok so I've been riding a defy 1 for coming up to 3 years now and decided its time for an upgrade. Been look at the tcr advanced 1 however I'm a little confused with the 2014 - 2015 differences. Have they replaced the 2014 composite with advanced for this year? £900 sounds like hell of a difference just for different wheels and handlebars, is anybody in the know?

  • I think that the 2015 Advanced = 2014 Composite
    2015 Advanced Pro = 2014 Advanced

It looks to me as though they have discontinued the composite range of bikes for 2015 for both the TCR and the Defy carbon framed bikes. The entry level is now the Advanced, the extra money is in the frame.

The 2 models you link to look to be the same apart from the paint scheme/graphics and chainset/cassettes
    2014 36/52 c/w 11-25, 2015 34/50 c/w 11-28.

The forks/steerer's are different also, 2014 Overdrive 2 full carbon oversize, 2015 hybrid Overdrive carbon/alloy standard size.

    2015 Advanced Pro = 2014 Advanced
2015 Advanced = same frame as Advanced Pro but with overdrive 1 composite alloy fork, less stiff and probably 200g or so heavier. Also has lower spec finishing kit (bars/stem/seat) and wheels and no ridesense sensor is supplied.

I read that Toray have stopped making T600 composite fibre, and so that is why Gaint frames are now made out of T700 Advanced material. No idea if the layup and manufacturing process differs between the Advacend and Advanced Pro as yet.

For me, the price of the 215 TCR Advanced 1 makes it a winner, even though I know that Giant will release their revision to the TCR next year (so I also expect the price to jump a little/perhaps even including those "marmite" disc brakes too).
I have ordered a 2015 TCR Advanced 1 as I already have some 11speed Zondas. The only downside is the many months I have to wait for delivery (in 2015).
