Garmin OS map sd card

I am looking at options for a new bike computer and wondered if the os maps sd card I have for my garmin Oregon 450 gps will work on the 810? Somebody told me they thought Garmin restricted use to one device but were not certain. I don't want to buy a basic unit then find I have to purchase separately as it works out much more expensive than purchasing a unit/map package.
Thanks for any advice

I don't have an answer, but you can always use the open source maps that can be downloaded and put on a cheap micro SD card. I use them on my 800 and tbh, they are fine - better in someways that the OS maps as they have course names highlighted (more useful for off road riding though).

Generally if you downloaded them from a CD onto a card in the device then they will be locked to the device. If it is a proper pre-loaded, branded Garmin SD card then they will be locked to the card. So in theory they will work in another device assuming that the format of them for the oregon 450 is the same as the format that the 810 uses.0

I got a Garmin branded OS-Discoverer map sd card with my GPSMap64 and can confirm that it works fine in my Edge800 as well. Although I prefer to use a talkytoaster map in my Edge800.0

If it doesn't work it's very easy to DIY maps with a cheap SD card: http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/05/down ... 00810.html0

Thanks all for the quick responses, it looks like it should be fine. That said, I've been working through the reviews and reliable performance looks like it can be a bit of a lottery?0
