Will be riding down from Maidstone on Saturday to catch some of the TOB.
The plan was to try and see them go through near Uckfield and then get to Ditchling Beacon.
I have zero local knowledge so was hoping somebody could let me know if this will be doable.
And does anybody know the sort of crowd they are expecting at Ditchling ? If we turn up just before is it likely to be heaving ??

Personally I would have thought that Ditchling is quite a popular spot round those parts so if anywhere is likely to get busy it could be there.
Also it looks like from what I can see on the website the route they take they'll be going up the side of the climb where the roads are narrower, they open up more on the decent down the other side towards Brighton."Arran, you are like the Tony Benn of smut. You have never diluted your depravity and always stand by your beliefs. You have my respect sir and your wife my pity"

Yes, certainly do-able.There are plenty of nice routes going from Uckfield to Ditchling
The weather is supposed to be good so I expect The Beacon will be rammed, if you want a bit more elbow room, the point where the route turns off the B2116 onto Underhill Lane in Westmeston could be a good spot. There is a little kick up and then a turn onto a very minor road with a bit of space around the road.0 -
We are actually now going to go to Newick and see the sprint there and then its a pretty leisurely ride over to Ditchling.
Will check out Underhill lane thanks Hamish0 -
I was just about to suggest that as the ideal approach!
A nice route between the two would be this: http://connect.garmin.com/course/7911095#
At the end, turn right for Ditchling or left for Westmeston.0 -

Hmm - too much A road for my taste. The road South of Newick to Barcombe is nicer. Then you can either take the B2116 to Ditchling or snake through the lanes to the North of that. Slightly longer route but you have plenty of time to do it.
There's some lovely roads in the area. Shame the Tour route avoids most of them to stick on the uglier ones.....Faster than a tent.......0
