Hello, I would honestly say that I never try to use bike in my commute. I usually take taxi in my commute. For the first in my life, I like to try new things to my life. I'm thinking this for past months. I would save few amount of money when using bike to commute. I know I should start finding. However, I am not good in knowing which bike to buy. My friend recommend Giant Revolt. Is it good for commuting?

a taxi every day for your commute?? That must cost a fortune!

Answer these questions and we will be able to help you
    How far is your commute?
Is it all on the road or offroad?
How much do you want to spend?

Although to be fair given the rate train fares increase it can't be that long before a taxi becomes cheaper.

    Hereford to Clifford.
About 2x12miles on courtry lanes and fast b -roads.

this is a serious commute so take it in stages.
I would recommend a disc brake cyclo-cross bike like Giant Revolt. the Revolt is OK but fitting a luggage rack is harder than on more conventional frames such as boardman.
A very good light setup with backups.
take care to explore the best cycle route.
try it out at the weekend.
