First cross bike, will be used for a combination of road, bridleway, wagon ways, dirt tracks etc. Nothing too hardcore off road but perhaps events like the lakes monster miles etc. Not commuting duties planned at present.
Narrowed my choice (max £1000) to either
Caadx 105 - well regarded cannon dale frame, decent spec list.
Focus Mares AX 3.0 2015 - mostley Tiagara with 105 rear derailed, very nice looking bike and only 9Kg.
Any thoughts?
Obvious alternatives?

That does look like good value. Do you think it's more of a commuter orientated bike than the caadx etc? I am guessing so by the tyres it come with etc. Don't plan on racing cross will never rule it out.0

I don't think you would go wrong with either of those. I bought a Ridley X-Bow last year. Did a little bit of CX training on it but in the end it's been mostly used as a commuting/winter/LEJOG/all-round bike. I only wish I'd got one with disks.0

There's also the Planet X* and On-One cross bikes.
*I may be biased about this :roll:Ridley Helium SL (Dura-Ace/Wheelsmith Aero-dimpled 45 wheels)
Light Blue Robinson(105 +lots of Hope)
Planet X XLS 1X10(105/XTR/Miche/TRP Spyre SLC brakes
Graham Weigh 105/Ultegra0 -
I got a Rose DX Pro 2000 with full 105 for under a grand - worth a look.0

the CAADx is really nicely built to my eye. it's more sprightly than my Giant TCX alu.
if you want discs, check out the new Giant TCX. might be a bit more than a grand but they always make a nice package: hi-carb version: http://www.bikeradar.com/road/gear/cate ... -14-48769/
looks good huh?When a cyclist has a disagreement with a car; it's not who's right, it's who's left.0 -
The Dale or the Mares.
Focus bikes are now better than most people think...ok Im biased being a Cayo Evo owner.....but their engineering standards are excellent.
Either bike will do you very well and are upgradable.
9kg is light too.
Can you not get to see then in the flesh before deciding?
I did just that and glad I did.0 -
Have you looked at Cube or Genesis cx's?0

In my opinion you cant go wrong with the Merida CX4 & they're now down to £899 and mainly 105.

I had the CX4 the year before this color scheme and it was an excelent bike and went everywhere I could go on my MTB in the Peak District, a very hardy bike indeed.0
