Double To Triple Chain ring Conversion?
Hello,
I tried finding out the information by searching for a topic that had already been posted but unfortunately the only ones i could find were people wanting to go the other way.
I am looking at at changing my old bike from a double to a triple. I have a 1980 something Puch frame. that is all the information i have, not much to go on i know. I understand that this may not be possible because of the chain line.
But i was wondering if anyone on here had done it before or heard of anyone doing it to a similar old frame. If so did you come across any problems and how did you defeat them?
Thanks for reading, Any help would be appreciated!
Chris

Easyist and cheapist would be a triple-lizer which is a small chainring which allows an even smaller ring to be bolted on.
Besides a Triplelizer you need a longer BB axle , small ring 30 BCD 74 and 3 speed front mech.
Don't worry about the chainline.

Okay, Thank you.
i will take a look at that and see if i can work it out.
if not im sure the local shop will be pleased to have some more custom!0 -
Of course you can buy a triple chainset too, still available for little money:

Fits on a cheap Shimano square taper axle and you can choose your chainrings.
With chainrings as a bargain now:

Buy yourself an axle and front mech and you are converted for about 50-55 Q. with new parts.
Used parts will be cheaper for a 30 years old bike, unless real vintage.
Lots of options regardless of bike shops.....0 -
Cheers! Thats all really helpful!0
