Fulcrum Racing 7's vs Campag Khamsim ASY vs Khamsim ASY G3

Does anyone use either of these wheels? What are your views on them? I'm after a cheap set of rims to replace my horrible all white, decal less Rodi EVO rims that the bike came with.
Cheers

To all intents and purposes they are the same. So......
Fulcrum 7 if your bike has a Shimano groupset
Khamsin ASY if your bike has a Campagnolo groupset
Khamsin G3 if you need to lock a cable through the rear wheel on a regular basis as the big gaps between the spokes make it that bit easier to thread through. That is the only rational reason to pick the G3!Faster than a tent.......0 -

Tbf the G3 configuration looks good.I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles0

It does Sloppy, im just concerned about how easy they are to being thumped out of true on a pothole or something.Ribble Ultralite Racing 7005, Campagnolo Veloce groupset, Campagnolo Khamsin G3 wheel set0

I wouldn't worry about that. Mine have G3 front and rear - after best part of 20,000 miles they are still straight. And I have the kit to true them easily so it would be easy enough to fix if I needed to. And I do appreciate the G3 front for aforementioned purposes of easy locking the bike in the box at work - reach through the spokes rather than round them risking mucky arms!
I am light though. If you tend to upset bike wheels, it would probably be wise to stick to the more conventional spoked version (lighter and cheaper!) but otherwise they really are tough things.Faster than a tent.......0 -
Rolf, im under 59kg, so im guessing i would be ok with the G3's right?Ribble Ultralite Racing 7005, Campagnolo Veloce groupset, Campagnolo Khamsin G3 wheel set0

I can only speak as someone who uses them everyday on potholed city streets and mangled country lanes and has had no probs in pushing 20k and who weighs 59.6 kg and whose Khamsins are pseudo G3 on the front as well as the rear! If that sounds OK and you like the G3s then buy them and don't worry about it. If you do write the rear off on a pothole, you'll never know if the non G3 wheel wouldn't have failed as well!Faster than a tent.......0 -
Cheers Rolf, much appreciated
One last thing, do they come with QR skewers? I can't find any info on that at all.Ribble Ultralite Racing 7005, Campagnolo Veloce groupset, Campagnolo Khamsin G3 wheel set0 -
It looks like another wheel has thrown its hat into the ring so to speak. Wiggle have got the Campag Vento Reaction wheel set (front and rear have the G3 spoke configuration) in stock and they are the same price as the Khamsins.
Now I am confused!Ribble Ultralite Racing 7005, Campagnolo Veloce groupset, Campagnolo Khamsin G3 wheel set0 -
They do come with Skewers. I think those Ventos are the older sort. I have some of those as well. They weigh about 100g less than the Khamsins I have but I think the current Khamsins weigh about as much as the old Ventos!
In any case, they don't feel any different on the bike to the Khamsins to me. I got mine for the price of the current Khamsins at the time. Ventos will make people think you aren't as much of a cheapskate as Khamsins but I'd probably go for the Khamsins. I think the radial spoked front looks better.Faster than a tent.......0 -
Thanks again Rolf. I must admit, even though the Ventos are tempting, I prefer the look of the Khamsin G3's.Ribble Ultralite Racing 7005, Campagnolo Veloce groupset, Campagnolo Khamsin G3 wheel set0

I weigh 63kg and have the G3 Khamsins on my wet bike, and the G3 Eurus on my "good" bike.
Never had any problem with either ever running out of true in three years of regular use. Both feel reassuringly bombproof.0 -
I have older style Khamsin G3s on my bike that are heavier than the current ones.
They support my weight (75kg) along with panniers full of books and shopping and stuff.
The newest Khamsins should weigh about the same as the older Vento Reaction.0 -
I've got Khamsin's on my winter bike - they're very robust, if not especially light, but do offer good value for money. Everything else on the bike is Shimano.
Word from my LBS was that the G3's were for heavier riders and that the different spoke pattern (more spokes?), was only really necessary for riders over 80kg. That was what I was told.
I think it was the second time out with the Khamsins, that I hit a pothole very hard (actually a deep ridge in the road where two bits of tarmac hadn't been joined properly), and rode home convinced that I'd knackered the wheels. They were absolutely fine.0 -
The campag skewers are really nice also!0
