Wheel Bearings (6802)

Evening all,
So after what was supposed to be two days cycling in the Cotswolds this weekend I had to abandon todays ride due to a noisy wheel. Only seem noisy when freewheeeling for some reason (is that a normal failure?) and there was a shocking amount of play in the rear wheel (well shocking to me).
The wheel has only done 600 miles so obviously shouldn't have failed but as they were from China I guess I only have myself to blame. I've emailed them but in all honesty I don't want to wait for them to send me replacements especially after they failed so early anyway.
I know sod all about hubs but thought I'd take it apart and see whats going on. There were 3 sealed cartridge bearings in there and two seem ok but one is very rough. Would this cause a significant amount of play in the wheel? It is marked 6802LB. Can or should I just get a cheap generic 6802 2RS bearing that are freely available or is it worth investing in a reputable set? Can anyone give me some suggestions please as I'm keen to put it back together and get back on the road.
The Cotswolds are lovely if you've never been but much hiller than I was expecting. A good 4000ft climbed yesterday and had planned the same today so I was gutted to drop out the ride early on

No unfortuantly I paid a bit extra to go with the supposed ceramic bearings. After cracking the rough one open the bearings were magnetic so must be steel. I think it's a own brand hub called 'Ed-hub'. Wish I'd stuck to the Novatec option now but live and learn. I guess I can get away with just replacing the one bearing as like I say it's only done 600 miles.
When I undone the NDS it was only hand tight so I'm guessing this caused the play and potentially caused the failure? Or would that be a symptom of the failure?
Thanks for your reply by the way

Cheap ceramic bearings have steel races and silicon carbide balls... they are generally speaking junk. Simplybearings is a good source for all sorts of bearingsleft the forum March 20230

Cheers Ugo I will look them up.
I was just sbout to order these: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/hope-61802-2rs-bearing/
and I'm guessing I'll have to replace all 3 if the quality of the other two are likely to be poor as well.

5 x 15 x 24 bearings are either very good quality or they don't last. The balls are very tiny. Are all the bearings in the hub that size?left the forum March 20230

Yes they are all marked up 6802LB. All of the cycling specific ones seem to be 6802 2RS so it may be that they have a poor seal on them (I'm not sure what the LB means?).
What is you opinion of the Hope one I linked to? I was thinking of ordering 3 to do all the rear bearings and seeing if the front ones hold out for a while longer.

Nothing to do with the seals... it's just ball/race precision, which is Chinese, rather than Swiss or German, hence they were at a much faster pace. The Wiggle Hope ones are not the original Hope ones, they seem OK though... I did buy and fit some and they were pretty durable, although they were a different size from the one you need.left the forum March 20230 -
Ok thanks Ugo. I'll prob give them a go as Wiggle are easy to deal with and as they are pretty cheap it's not the end of the world if they don't last. Thanks for your advise - spot on as always!

Hi, I own a bearing distribution company LB is the Chinese terminology for 2RS which means 2 rubber seals and sealed for life with grease. Chinese bearings are generally ok, the ones from Wiggle will be chinese.
If you are after a better quality bearing you would need to look at SKF which are a quality brand, but would cost a lot more and I couldn't say if they would outlive the life of a chinese bearing.
I could always price them for you if you are interested.0
