Wheelset upgrade compatibility question

Hi folks,
Currently on a bog standard 2013 spesh Allez and I'm looking at upgrading the wheels.
I'm not mechanically minded whatsoever and I'm not sure what speed wheels I could run on my bike.
The spec says that it's 8 speed but most I've been looking at are 9/10 speed.
Would these be okay or would I have to do anything to the bike 1st?
Any help would be very much appreciated!

Assuming you have Shimano gears (it says Shimano on the bits), then any wheelset which is specified for Shimano gears will work.left the forum March 20230

Would staying with an 8-speed Shimano-compatible cassette be easier, even though the new wheels could accept 9/10 speed? Would any shims or spacers be needed to use an 8-speed cassette? Any concerns about the chain, or chainrings?0

I recently bought a set of Mavic Aksiums described as 9/10/11 speed compatible. They came with a shim and my 9 speed cassette fitted a treat. I believe 7/8/9 are the same so you should be ok.0
