Garmin 510 timer-distance question

Morning, I would like to set my Garmin 510 to record a Kilometre time trial that we are running for a charity event.

Is there a way to set the Garmin to record the time taken over a km and stop the timer precisely?

Would auto lap set to 1km work? Wouldn't stop the timer but you would see the time and could check it afterwards
