Hello all.
Looking now to get my son a mountain bike for xmas price ranging up to £250. I like the look of the Ridgeback MX24 which ive found for about £195 but wanted your advice to see if this is a good bike for the money or is there better out there..
Thanks

Carrera do some decent 24" bikes, my daughter has the Luna, pity they use grip shifts, she struggles with them a little.0

I have seen the carrera blast on halfords website, would you say its better value than the Ridgeback..?0 -
There's probably very little in it apart from the carrera having disc brakes, they've downgraded the spec since I bought my daughters.0

The Carrera is probably a bit better, but I'd look at something like this

Basic, but nice and light.
Suspension forks at this level are rubbish (and heavy)I don't do smileys.

actually the basic suntour jr fork isn't that heavy. was only a small amount saved when I got Lewis the rst air forks.
main issue with the carrera is the weight and the gripshift. you are better off spending a little bit more and getting something like an islabike beinn 24

ridgeback looks a better buy than the blast0 -
It's a bit heavy but has a few decent parts for the price ie a Aheadset, proper trigger shifters, sealed bottom bracket, semi decent fork, quality rear mech and and a few accessories. Just dump the steel bar for an alloy one:

Thanks for the advice all, plenty to look over...0

Personally I'd look for a good condition second hand blast and fit a few sensible upgrades like trigger shifters, can be had for £60-80, that leaves a lot for a few small improvements and there are plenty around'Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
