I'm looking for some gum wall tyres for my neoretro Gios rebuild. They will be mounted onto Mavic Aksiums & used all year round (not a huge amount in winter though).

Sorry, each. Ideally I dont want to be spending that much but will if they're worth it.0 -
A bit over £22 gets you Panaracer Paselas which are light but relatively tough. For more raceyness you can get Veloflex Master for around £25 which are lovely. However, the uncovered fabric sidewalls are neither tough nor wipe clean. Once you've been out on them on a wet day and got oily water all over them they'll never be quite the same again!
I'm not sure how good the Paselas are at staying clean as I never ride the bike I have them on in the rain but at least it is rubber making the tan rather than fabric!Faster than a tent.......0 -

Okay they're £31, but surely you should put Italian tyres on your Gios?0 -

The Open Corsa's are the nicest tyres I have ever tried...but I think they are a luxury/race tyre as they are not that durable and do not offer much protection. Still, they are bloody quick, ride superbly and grip well in all weathers...and most importantly of all they look absolutely mint on a retro bike. The 25mm tyres are not the widest 25s out there so clearance shouldn't be a problem. I keep them on a bike that I ride every now and then, usually when I want to put a smile on my face0 -

Except that those aren't Italian. Which is another reason (aside from cost) for going for the Veloflex tyres I mentioned - they are made in Italy by the people that used to make the Vittoria tyres before Vittoria moved production to Taiwan.Faster than a tent.......0 -

Yes yes yes, we all know they're made in Thailand now! They're still what I'd put on a retro Gios though. The last 2 tyres I had to throw away barely used were both veloflex, one was a Corsa, one was the forerunner called Black, both ripped sidewalls.0 -

Strange I haven't had any problems with Veloflex open clinchers or tubs - apart from them wearing down quicker than other brands but then that's the downside to great riding tyresSelling my Legend frame

i love Veloflex open tubulars but the side walls are really , really weak for riding around here.
Definitely recommend to anyone to try them - they are bliss compared to Continental etc
