My Specialized Wedgie gave up, straps torn etc...

So I need a saddle bag that can hold the following:

One mountain bike tube or two road tubes.
2xCO2 canisters + inflator.
Mini pump (just in case).
Multitool.
Chain tool and a few spare links and quick links.
Spare set of Shimano/Tektro/TRP disc brake pads
A hand full of self adhesive patches .
A couple of tyre boots.
A pair of tyre levers.

Reflectives desirable, not essential.
Waterproof preferable.
Quick release so it's easy to move between bikes.
I want solid mounts that clamp to the seat rails not fabric and velcro.

Ideally I'd like examples where you've had the bag for several years or tens of thousands of miles!
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.

  • With all that stuff, you probably need a rackpack rather than a saddlebag. I use one of these http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/carradice-super-c-rackbag-black-13ltr-prod6307/ when commuting on my Audax bike.
  • A rucksack, it all fits in the small pocket of my rucksack?

Really, I'm pretty good at saddlebag 3D Tetris and it all fitted in my wedgie, plus a small cable lock and I could get a thin jacket and my overshoes in if I used the expanded capacity.

But the mountings don't last, I got through two of them in five years.

So was looking for something of similar volume that mounted directly to the seat rails and can cope with my load out.

    Maybe ALTRAEXQ7

I have a Ortlieb - the largest roll-up one, I stuff tubes, multi-tool plus my lunch (sandwiches plus plastic pot of salad. ) into this.
Has lasted a couple of years now - well made bit of kit, is looking worn but it's served me pretty well, getting rolled up, stuff jammed into it etc.
    + points:
    Seems very well made.
    Is waterproof
    - points:
Reflective patch is not very wall placed for the way I roll it up.
Not an easy attachment point for a light, I can clip one on but I've had it unclip and bounce across the road a few times.
  • Yeah, I looked at those, way too red.

I ended up going with the Altura. I'll revisit this thread when it breaks!

How long has it lasted and will it cope with my loadout?

Not had it that long to really say either way but its well built and robust bit of kit. I would say yes to it swallowing everything bar the brake pads because i'm not sure how big these are.
  • You need a support vehicle for that lot.
  • Nah I got it all in the Altura ALTRAEXQ7 but had to sacrifice the second tube for the lock.

    A pair of disc pads are about 4mm x 3cm x 3cm.
