Canyon internal cable routing

Have just cabled up a Specialized Venge with no cables or guides in the frame.
Job was a lot easier than I thought, just need to prepare first and make sure you have something like a long thin wire. I used a piece of very fine aluminium rod one of the engineers at work recommended.
Specifically referring to the rear derailleur cable from the bottom bracket to the rear derailleur looked difficult, I pushed the aluminium rod from the rear derailleur towards the bottom bracket and after a couple of abhorted attempts I realised I needed to put a bit of a curve on the rod. Did this and it went straight through, Attached the new gear cable with a few turns of Gaffer tape and slowly pulled the rod and new cable through.
Brake and gear cables were very easy in the downtube etc. I decided to use the California Cross on the front derailleur route, this is where the cable enters the frame on the right hand side as you sit on the bike, and then crosses the rear derailleur cable in the downtube, gives a more relaxed curve between handle bar and downtube.
Overall I was a bit apprehensive about this cabling but having now done it it was quite easy.
If you are replacing an existing cable why don't you Gaffer tape the new cable to the old and use the old cable to pull new cable into place ?t0
