Suspicious advert

I've been on the look out for a a time trial frame to build up myself and came across this advert on fleabay for a full bike.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ribble-Aero-t ... 2594ed5007

Is it me, or is this advert a bit fishy?

The bike seems a bit serious for someone to commute on, and a bit specialist for someone not to use now they don't commute anymore.

I may be wrong, I hope I am, but thought I'd just post it in case someone is missing a bike.....

Ask him for the seriel number, then ask the police to check it against the stolen property register. If it doesn't come up as stolen, then there's nothing to worry about other than a chance it isn't the bike described and pictured, or he'll have your money away and you'll see nothing. With a feedback of 2, I'd be wary.
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.
  • Add does look at little odd on the way the bike is described but the seller does go into quite some detail, guess that paired with such little feedback/history on Ebay.

Apart from checking as best you can that it's not stolen perhaps ask if he has purchase docs or from it's last service). If sellers says yes then there's your answer, if no then your choice if you want to bid but I know what I'd do.
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.

Commuting on an all out TT bike? Measuring the top tube in inches?

If you own a bike like that you'd also list model numbers/names/spec and not just the brand.

Even an 'all-the-gear-no-idea' type would do a better job than that. I'd stay well away.
“Training is like fighting with a gorilla. You don’t stop when you’re tired. You stop when the gorilla is tired.”
  • Oh, I have no intention of buying the bike, the whole advert and scenario stinks....

However, out of curiosity, I have contacted the seller who claims he bought it off a mate 6 months ago, a mate who only ever used it for TT's. What else would you use it for FFS!

Ho has also given me the frame number....RB-181011-1-0282.

    Just odd.

Anyway, where have all the indian adverts gone? I needed some marriage advice, or I will do when I buy another bike

It's collection only from his home address so I'd be very surprised if it's stolen.

Also since none of us have any idea about his commute it's a bit much to speculate that it would be impossible on a tt bike. With normal wheels which the advert suggests it had before the s80's it's not unfeasible at all.

Just a regular all the gear no idea guy I think which means you could probably get it as a bargain. Just remove the Mtb pedals on it...

Kitchen looks nice, not what I'd expect from a bike thief.

Perfect for popping to the shops on, or trundling to work at 14mph!

Like the OP I can't tell if this is scammy or just someone being a bit special. I've never seen anyone riding an all-out TT bike who didn't at least look like they knew what it was...

He knows what it was he doesn't exactly call it a commuting bike on the advert. And for all we know he's a great tester or triathlete and he uses this bike because the best way to get good at tt's is training in that position.
  • The wheels aren't SRAM S80s.

S80s have an alloy rim (i have two and three S60s so am fairly used to them). They also have internal nipples unlike these wheels and the hubs are different.
  • The wheels look like pair of chinese carbon wheels with Novatec hubs.
