Rear wheel bearing play/noise

I have a creak and click coming from what sounds like the bb area. Though it's always hard to tell when riding.

It seems to happen above 85rpm, but if I'm grinding a big gear there's no noise.

I've changed the bb and pedals which doesn't help. The creak is there when I'm out the saddle so I know it isn't that.

There is very slight play in my rear wheel. Nearly imperceptible. Could this be the source of the noise?

Any help is appreciated.

  • Tighten it... it's pretty easy if you have the Zonda

  • I've loosened the 2mm bolt on the hub and tightened that as much as possible. But no change.

Is there a way to tighten the bearing internally?

  • The screw adjusted is how you adjust the bearings. Maybe a few spins of the wheel will alloy it to go a little more tighter, taking up the slack

  • So having tightened the cap and 2mm bolt as much as possible with no change, the wheel is knackered?

Do you have it in the frame?

  • I do indeed.

I've tightened both the outer cap and the 2mm pinch bolt. The wheel still moves from side side about 2mm and creaks a lot.

  • I guess that's the next step.

Right after I've been to Aldi for some whiskey to dull the pain. I assume they sell it in their cycling stuff.

  • So at the risk of severe mockery, and in hopes of preventing someone else a month of frustration and fiddling with BBs and cranks and bearings and stuff.

Simply check your rear wheel is seated in the drop outs correctly :).

Problem solved, thanks for the advice anyway guys.
