I have recently upgraded my Carrera Vulcan to the shimnao zee groupset. I can't get the chain lined up straight when its in the first gear, it bends slightly. It looks like the new external bottom bracket pushes the crank to far out, i have tried adjusting the derailleur but i can't get it lined up. Also if i pedal backwards the chain drops down to gear 2 or 3

    Don't back pedal then.

Have you put the correct spacers on?

It shouldn't be straight aligned in first and then it would be rubbish in the rest.

  • Initial thoughts are too many spacers or the chain set needs a bit more encouragement to sit nearer the bb shell, tap the centre of the chain set with a rubber mallet and see if it moves. Is the rear mech fitted correctly to the mech hanger? Loosen the Allen bolt attaching it to the hanger, pull the mech downwards and re tighten.
See how you get on, good luck.

My initial thought is that everything is working as it should.....
