Rookie error - Campy wheels on Shimano

As you'll gather I'm pretty new to road biking, but recently decided to upgrade the standard wheels on my Tarmac (DT Swiss) to some Campagnolo Bullets (50).
The issue I've just discovered (told you I was new!) is that I've bought the Bullets with Campagnolo hubs, not the Shimano version - my Tarmac is still on a Tiagra set-up
Does anybody know any way around this - looking at a few other forums ppl have talked about conversion kits but sounds like a bit of a nightmare? Reluctant to send them back as they were a bargain!
Cheers.

Can you not just buy a campagnolo cassette to put on? I might be wrong but I believe it should run fine.0
-
Ok. Is there a difference in spacing on the different cassettes, and that's why it won't work?0
-
I used a 9 speed campy cassette wheel on one of my Shimano equipped bikes some years back and seem to remember no particular problems once the rear mech had been set up. In fact I'm sure iv'e mixed and matched lots of components in the past
I expect Sheldon's site will have the various cassette sprocket spacings
http://sheldonbrown.com/cribsheet-spacing.html it looks like there is a 0.1mm centre to cetre difference between Campag and Shimano which doesn't sound a lot but over 9-10 sprockets becomes 1mm !
Why not buy a replacement Shimano hub and get the wheel rebuilt http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Shimano-Tiagra-Rear-Hub-FH-4600-32h-BNIB-/251633112163?pt=UK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&hash=item3a968094630 -
Pretty sure you can buy a shimano type cassette to go on a campag freehub. Marchisio do one I think.0
-
You can definitely get Ambrosio cassettes with mixed spacing and splines. I'd do an ebay link but that horrible site is banned from work!0
-
There are a few 'Shimergo' exceptions, but in general modern Campag and Shimano don't get on. By far the easiest option available to you is to swap for something Shimano-compatible.0
-
70 quid for a replacement freehub with the correct splines. Ambrosio do a cassette for the opposite problem (Shimano hub, Campag gears). They used to make the opposite as well, but they seem to have discontinued it.
Weirdly, 11 Speed is completely cross compatible in this regard.0 -
Best way to sort this is to put a campagnolo groupset on your bike...Insta: ATEnduranceCoaching

Ok cheers for the responses. Seems to be differences of opinion on whether I could get away with putting the Campy wheels on but think I'll err on the side of caution and send them back...lesson learned in not checking on compatability beforehand!0

If you can send them back, just exchange them for a pair with a Shimano freehub. If you can't, buy a new Shimano-splined freehub and sell the 'nearly new' campag one online.0

If it is 10 speed just put on Campag cassette and it should work fine.0

One of these, basically

There's probably an equivalent Fulcrum branded part that's a little cheaper.0 -
Just spoken to Total Cycling and they've told me that changing the freehub will work, so I've gone with that (£70 - may be some commission in there for you MisterMuncher?!). Apparently fitting it is a job for a LBS so add a bit of £ for labour and my 'bargain' wheels aren't looking so great :roll:0

Shimano 11 speed and Campagnolo 11 speed work absolutely fine.0

It's an easy DIY job if you have the tools. The tools are fairly basic and stuff you should have (allen keys, chain whip, etc). High end campag wheels are easy to service.
Watch the beginning and end of this to see how to take the freehub off/on (Fulcrum is the same as Campag):

And I reckon you can sell the unused campag freehub on ebay or the bikeradar classifieds for at least £50.0 -
stupid price for a freehub :shock:0
-
That must be the high end freehub same as on the Shamals, cos the one on the Zondas costs less.
Yes, DIY job, 5 minutes flat.0 -

If only. First result on the Google, and more chance of getting feathers off a frog than money off a Derry man.0 -

Is this TRUE ?
I am changing my gearing from Campag Athena 11 to Dura-ace 11, over the winter. I was intending to change the freehub on the Fulcrum Quattro's and buy some C-24's for climbing.
If 11 to 11 is compatible then I shouldn't need to change the hub, correct ??0 -
Perfectly compatible. I use a Campag 11 wheel on my 6800 equipped TT bike.Insta: ATEnduranceCoaching

Yup... seems to be. I was asking that very question in the "Workshop" section.“You may think that; I couldn’t possibly comment!”
