Hi. Purchased a set of C50 clincher two weeks ago. Been out on them four times, the first three occasions felt ok bar the brakes shuddering. I entered the Manchester 100 on sunday and suffered five punctures in the space of thirty miles. my club in there entirety had zero punctures. Checked the brake block alignment, had new tires on pumped up to 120psi. Anybody got any ideas or experienced similar issues.

5 punctures does seem extreme did you check the wheel after the first one to make sure you had removed any sharp items that might have caused the others?Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.0

The wheels themselves don't really have any influence on how many punctures you get. Some idea of what tyres you have might be more useful...0

Should clarify what I meant by checking the wheel; if clinchers then check the tyre and rim and rim tape for objects, if tubs then the rim and rim tapePain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.0 -
According to previous reviews on otherforums the wheels have a tendency to suffer from metal filings within the rim, I have checked for debris and they appear clean. I was riding on a pretty new set of swalbe ultremos, The first puncture was caused by a thorn which was totally removed. Cannot explain the remaining causalities.0

Then if you checked your break pads too incase there is something protruding that could cause the other punctures your are unlucky indeed.Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.0

It just sounds like you need better tyres.
120psi is very high, how much do you weigh?Boardman Elite SLR 9.2S
Boardman FS Pro0 -
Hi Bar Shaker. I have always ran at 120psi in the past and had limited punctures so its a mystery. Going to give them another outing with brand new pro 4's and maybe drop the psi to 110. Oh I weigh 93kg, sounds a lot but shimano do not stipulate rider weight limit so I have not brought that into the equation.

In regards to the brake judder a friend of mine has the same wheels running at 120psi, he too noticed brake judder.
To cut a long story he had the wheel tested by a wheel builder who said the braking surface was out causing the judder, wheel couldn't be trued to fix the issue.
Basically is looks that when he ran the wheels at 120psi parts of the braking surface distorted due to the high pressure.
Sent wheels back to shimano who replaced FOC under warranty.0 -
Thanks for that Mikey1976 I have contacted the point of sale just awaiting a reply. I take it your friends new set are a noticeable improvement? you just don't expect shoddy workmanship on the top tier model.0
