Given that (I understand) 650b's are really only about 27 inch is there really a need for 650b tubes. I am assuming that I'll probably get away with a 26" tube. If so then I'll only need one spare in my camelback and not need to worry about having the right tube depending on the bike I take out.

Thoughts?

    Makes sense to me.

  • We put a 26" tube in a 650b wheel on a group ride a while back, it's still in there.
It wasn't even a tight fit when we put it in.
I have also fitted a 29er tube in my 26" wheel before. A bit tricky to get in but once inflated you wouldn't know the difference. It got me home at least.

All tubes are interchangeable but 650 is the most useful for all sizes.

    650 is about 27.5 btw ;)

It may be about 27.5, but if you think a 26 is a 26, than 650B IS 27.

A friend built a 36er and uses 29er tubes in that as 36er tubes are about 1/2kg.

Inflate a tube out the tyre and watch it grow, a 26 tube will be fine in a 650B

  • Someone gave me a 26" tube in an emergency 3 months ago...still there!

So I stocked up on some when they were on sale. £2 each :D
