Genesis Volare 20

Hello
Excuse my ignorance, and probably incorrect terminology but I wonder if anyone can shed any light on the following.
I have purchased and had assembled by a local bike shop, a Genesis Volare 20. It was in the sale, and yes, a bit over-ambitious perhaps for my first road bike.
It is 'out of the box' so no upgrades. For the record that means 931 stainless steel frameset and Ultegra groupset.
Putting any pressure on the pedal (offside in 'car speak'), in higher gears, and on the larger of the two chainrings, the chain feels like it is rubbing against something. It is quite annoying. Actually, rephrase that. It is f88888g annoying. It is so bad I am currently not riding it because it is annoying me so much. I cannot find time to take to the local bike shop and because like an idiot I purchased online...can't easily take it back to where I bought it. I am sure there is a lesson in there somewhere.
Anyway...
It is not catching the front mech although the chainring does move a lot as I put any heavy pressure on the pedal. And there is no play in the bottom bracket.
Are these frames known for being very flexible to the extent that the bottom bracket moves if gently pushed from one side, or do I have a duff frame?

I experienced this on a van nics astraeus told the guys in the shop when it went in for first service after 400 miles. The guy said he would take up the slack on the front mech cable which I thought wouldn't make much difference but it did. Initially when i got out the saddle and pushed hard I could hear a rubbing sound coming from front mech, when I looked at it, it looked as though the chain and chainwheel and front mech were miles away from each other so a bit of a mystery why it worked! Just giving you a bit of hope.0

Email or telephone the retailer - they may be able to advise you if you can't take it to a reputable LBS. It's hard to diagnose any problem from a description, but it sounds like something isn't right.
By the way, nice choice - sod the fact it's your first bike, why settle for something lesser if you can afford it. You're more likely to want to ride more if it's a nice bike like this one (presuming you get the problem solved of course!)
If all else fails, I'll take it off your hands for a knock-down price (and its a 50 or 52!!)0 -
It's a 54, and it has crossed my mind...
Thanks for the comments. It's going back to the LBS at the weekend. Loose bolts were mentioned.0
