Would a dodgy battery cause my HR monitor to give me strange stats? Well over 200bpm this morning. Just checking before I go and see a doctor :D

Garmin 500 did this with me HR went haywire new battery in belt sorted it. If in doubt though see your GP did you have any symptoms?
  • Tried a new battery and now the bloody thing has stopped completely! Might try giving the connectors a clean up.

HRMs can give spurious results sometimes. Usually the result of poor skin contact in my experience. Can also reportedly be due to interference from some types of clothing and low battery might be a potential cause, I'm not sure about that one.
  • I've just given female connectors on the strap a little clean and my heart has appeared again. I'm alive :D

A nice clean female connection can revive most of us, if not try Viagra.

My HRM stopped, changed battery but the result was intermittent readings , checked connections but still intermittent readings so got a tube of ECG gel from the local chemist result spot on readings no spikes or dropouts.

When I had this problem it was a skin contact problem. The problem stopped when I started to sweat.
