CX newbie looking for bike/general advice

Hi guys,
I got into road riding about 18 months ago coming from a football background and now I am hooked on bikes!
With autumn/winter nearly here I'm thinking about getting into cx for winter training possibly racing before the sun returns.
My knowledge of cx is pretty limited but keen to give it a whizz, so am looking for a bike although I'm not sure what I should be looking for.
I currently ride a cervelo r5 on the road so don't want anything too cheap and nasty although don't want to break the bank before I've given it a go.
Thinking of staying away from disc brakes so that I can use it for winter road rides.
Any guidance/help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Why would you avoid disc brakes for winter road rides? I'm looking into getting a disc CX bike with one of the main reasons being to use it on the road over the winter/in the wet!0 -
