New brakes needed for my Zesty - any ideas?

Hi all, my 2011 zesty Formula(crap) brakes need renewing.
I want to make sure I upgrade the brakes, but not sure which ones to go for.
Unsure of prices, but i'd love to have both front and rear for under £100.

I love the look of the X0 chrome set. Obviously these are over my budget... dammit.0

Yeah noticed that I like CRC so these are top of the list so far unless anyone else has any other ideas.0

Shame you didn't get in a few weeks ago - I got mine for £53 an end from CRC.
I have to say they are damn good - you need to be careful as they almost have too much power (although that's not really possible) loads of clearance.
I used them in Wales the other week and they were exceptional - highly recommend - not even for the money as they are very cheap relative to other makes. Which makes them even better. Not that light though, but that's really by the by.0 -
Ah ok nice one mate. What rotors are you using? I have the standard ones at the mo, but might change those too as don't know how straight they are :-\0
-
Like I say - they have loads of clearance so don't rub with a slight warp.
I'm just using standard Formula rotors as that's what I have. Don't think you need to worry about icetech rotors unless you're doing some major DH. I'm thinking of going down to a 160mm front from 180mm as they are that good.0 -
sweet! i may just give them a go!0

i run new XT's on the RT76 non ice tech rotors,absolutely amazing0

THat's lucky, because what you need are brakes that work not brakes that look fancy... go for Shimano XT (they also do a chromed version)Bikes:

Lapierre X-Flow 712 - XC fs rocket
Pivot Mach 6 - Enduro Machine
Pinarello FP2 - Roadie0 -
I'm in the same boat. Can't decide whether to spend £90 on SLXs or £120 on XTs.0

XT all the way - it's only 30 quid for several years more happiness. Unless you struggle to feed yourself of course ;-)0

For what it`s worth I ride a 2013 Zesty 514 and put on XT`s last year along with Ice Tech rotors. The Formula RX`s that were fitted as standard were actually okay in terms of power but I hated the levers. I had SLX`s on a Whyte and have Deores on my Scott so I have had everything Shimano! I have had Hayes 9`s and Avid Elixirs in the past too but Shimano are just....right! They work faultlessly, are reliable, have great lever feel and modulate very well too - what`s not to like?!
They all work the same tbh - brilliantly! Differences are subtle (reach adjustment, bite point, etc) so just buy whatever you can afford - you will not be disappointed!
Must say XT`s do like the part though 8)2017 YT Jeffsy 27 AL Comp

I had a set of them, they were crap.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Hard to beat XT for the money. Great stopping power, very reliable and no fuss. Saint rotors improve things further.Bird Aeris : Trek Remedy 9.9 29er : Trek Procaliber 9.8 SL0

SLX are great as well though, especially for the price.__________________
