I currently have Tiagra groupset and have just fitted an Ultegra crank. The problem I have is that the front derailleur does not go to the inner ring now, it seems that the inner ring on the Ultegra crank is closer to the frame than the Tiagra one.

If I get an Ultegra derailleur will it cure the problem do you think?

I thought that all the shimano gear was cross compatible?

Im running it on a Giant TCR composite

Strange that the Ultegra's small ring is closer to your frame. Not a problem though, all you need to do is adjust the high and low limit screws on your current front derailleur which will move the position of the cages.

When you removed the Tiagra crankset was there a spacer fitted to the axle adjacent the inner chain ring by mistake? If not, then as Dkay says adjust the high and low limit screws accordingly, you may, though not always necessary, need to disconnect the control cable and re-adjust the cable tension.
