The Panaracer Fire XC pro is a good all rounder and the wired bead can be found at just over a tenner each.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

It depends on where you ride really, wrong or correct tyre choice will make a great deal of difference.
These sound like a great shout at 14 quid a tyre. These are more of a dry tyre though. (wire bead for the 14 quid)

You often have to shop around as many stores don't do the wired, however here's 1.8's cheap
