Hi,
I decided to open my own topic because I noticed everyone asking about bikes in the new bike topic were not receiving replies.
My Grandad is looking to replace his old 5 speed vintage bike.
When we were on holiday we rented some bikes with index shifters which he loved and they also had 30 gears, which was brilliant for him as old age is looming and the massive choice of gears was brilliant and made climbing easy for him.
I am not saying these are a necessity, just that those were some of his preferences, to have index shifting (which I think most new bikes have anyway) and a nice range of gears to choose from, unlike his 5 speed at the moment.
Any suggestions at all would be lovely,
Thank you very much
Luke

I would look at Decathlon's range, some good bikes in the £300-£800 range and good service.0

This is a lot of bike for £699.
Sportive geometry, 105 group and £300 off at the moment.

Wow- that is an even better deal than the Giant.
£599 for a bike with a 105 group is pretty brilliant.0 -
I'm not quite sure it has suitable geometry for a Grandad though!
I'd guess some kind of touring type bike might be best? Lots of gears and relaxed geo.0 -

I am a 68 year old granddad and a Giant Defy would suit me fine. Not all granddads dodder about with a caradice saddle bag. The 25 mile TT record for a 60 year old is less than 50 minuets!0 -
I was replying regarding the Felt though. The head tube on the Defy is 35mm longer than the similarly sized Felt F75 for example. The Felt Z85 would be a good alternative to the Defy for similar money.0

How about this then? Not 105 but must tick most boxes?
