Foolproof way to fine tune Di2?

Hey there,

So, i've recently bought a 2nd hand bike with Di2. I've been generally pretty happy with it, however, the rear shifting isn't always as smooth as I feel it should be. I know how to adjust it, but is there a foolproof (i'm obviously a fool) way to ensure that the derailleur is in the correct position? There seems to be a lot of small movements between the points where noise starts in between cogs.

Pick a nice long flat road. Put it into index adjustment mode when riding in gear 5. Micro shift towards gear 4 (the next larger cog) until you start to hear some noise. Micro shift back 4 button presses.

    Exit index mode.

    Et voila.

Yup - indexing whilst riding is the best way of tuning Di2 - it's so easy.

Ok, I hadn't thought of doing it whilst riding tbh. And 4 clicks down from the larger cog...

Thanks for the help guys , :)

  • What they said above - but also worth checking the gear hanger is straight with a hanger alignment tool.

Yes - that's sound advice. Indexing Di2 is usually incredible simple and quick. If you're having any sort of problem, check everything else (as above, the hanger, also that the wheel is properly fitted, the cassette isn't worn etc)

  • Again, thanks for the advice.

One more quick question. I'm just trying to charge the battery for the first time, but the charger light goes on for a few seconds and then goes off. Is this normal? A little concerned that the battery isn't charging and i'll find out halfway up a mountain (i'm going to Switzerland for work next week and being sneaky, taking the bike with me).

I have the first gen (10 speed) Ultegra Di2.

  • Charger light should go off once fully charged - sounds like your battery is fully charged.
You can check charge in battery by holding the shift paddle down for 2 seconds -solid green light on the junction box = 100%-50% charge, flashing green is 50%-25% charge, red is less than 25% charge.

Ok, I've done about 300 miles of riding, so am surprised it wont charge a little. It did still show a solid green light though.

    Fingers crossed!

I seem to charge mine very rarely (I have 2 but it's only occasional) - and the charger is incredibly quick. You'll do 1000 miles easily on a charge.
