Specialized saddle - sizing confusion

I measured my sit bones tonight to see what saddle size I should buy. They are narrow (just under 100mm) and apparently Spesh recommend 130mm saddles for this size and 143mm for medium width sit bones. Yet, I can only find 143mm saddles by them.

Anyone any ideas here??? Did they resize everything perhaps?

Thanks a lot. No idea why the bigger stores didn't have small sizes in!

Any Specialized stockists near you? Mine has saddles you can trial for a few days.

How on earth do you measure your sit bones?

You google 'how to measure sit bones' then do it.

(Or Specialized have a pressure sensitive based measuring mat you sit on).

I sat on a piece of aluminium foil on a carpeted suface, then measured the distance between the deepest indentations. Surprisingly easy to do.

Turns out I'm a small even though I've been riding a medium sized saddle for 4 years!

Out of interest I'll have a go, I'm sure it'll get me some funny looks!

Only if you do it in Tesco without paying for the foil. They are funny about that kind of thing, and you probably won't get Clubcard points.

Your "sit bones" aren't parallel, they're narrower at the front and wider at the rear so you really need to sitting in your riding position to get a decent measurement.

The guidance was to measure between the deepest indentation in the foil. Which gave me about a 90mm measurement, which seems pretty definitely a small/narrow saddle.

Sitbone separation may well be completely irrelevant to what width or style of saddle you'll find more comfortable. C'est un herring rouge I'm afraid.

Its a useful guide and as is the type / location of discomfort you are suffering from.

The guidance is rubbish, well may be not rubbish but there's more to it than that... read http://www.stevehoggbikefitting.com/bikefit/2011/09/all-about-smps/
