Europcar rider is Sicard and joined the two up front.

Valverde joins them and hits the front immediately.

    75m.

  • Not relevant to this stage, but when did it become acceptable for Bonnen to be crap? The commentators were talking about him yesterday like he is totally washed up.
Is he done? Suffering from motivation? Turned in to a bit of an EBH? I know for various reasons he hasn't got any results all season but is that all that can be expected of him now?

21ks, still no time gap. SORT IT OUT.

Valverde still on the front drilling full gas.

    Caruso trying to bridge.

Evans dropped or had a mechanical...suspect the later as he has rejoined no problem.

    Time gap 23 secs.

Good roads for breakaways as winding and narrow but gap still at 18secs with 18km. Peloton is quite large and more teams coming to the front. Caruso caught. May well be a waste of energy for Valverde.

Sicard was the guy leading the descent for Rolland in the Giro on THAT stage. He's good. Yates a bit tentative but to be expected post his crash in San Sebastian.

Matthews was struggling on the ascent but I think I just caught a sign of him 3rd wheel. If it is him thats a damn good effort.

    Single file 50 riders left.

The three did and I presume Sicard has as he has not been shown out front and there is no gap.

Yeah I assumed so, but he was off the front of the other trio. Was just amusing myself with the thought of a long rider being of in front without anyone knowing.

The official results currently don't have Quintana in the front group. Did anyone see him? Is this a transponder issue or something else?

Thought I saw him talking to Valverde after he was caught.

Nothing about him being out of it on the tickers.

Not on results yet but yes he probably changed bike.

edit: Cnews: The race organisation has issued this top 10 for the GC, but we've been told that Quintana's omission is a mistake. He is still in second place.
