Updates on the £300-£500 sticky post?

Supersonic's excellent post designed, no doubt, to answer the eternal question - which bike if I've not much (relatively) money to spend, is looking a little tired and outdated.

Are there equivalent "go to" recommendations in that bracket which would be useful to have updated for 2014 (and 2015) ranges?

Of course, I am asking because I am in the market for such a beast, so I can't declare complete self disinterest...

(c. £300 budget for me, actually for SWMBO)

Entry pint is calibre two.two, Carrera Vulcan, Voodoo Bantu or Rockrider 520' rising through (not necessarily in exact order) Carrera Kraken and Fury, Voodoo Hoodoo, calibre fifty and the new Rockrider 8.1 which has a new number I can't recall. For a little more the Voodoo Bizango is great value, especially as it's a 29er.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

Now THAT should be a sticky. Or the comment at least added to the original thread.

Cheers Rookie - that just about covers my expectations of what you'd say. Harder now to get a decent recommendation at £300, looks like £360-£380 is the new bottom line.

Can you not use Quidco at Go Outdoors to help on the Calibre pricing?

I could, but its only £18 saved. And if the calibre doesn't fit well enough for SWMBO, that would be a moot point anyway!
