9sp front mech on 8sp

Hi guys

Maybe a stupid question, but...

Is it possible to run a 9sp triple front mech on an 8sp triple?

    Yes, the chain is thinner but the cage should be able to deal with that.

    The other way around, but it will work.
    The chain is too wide for the cage, but the cage can be bent a little open if the chain rubs too often to your taste.
