Knog Blinders

Looking for some lights to continue training as the nights draw in.

I like the look of the Knog blinders, the quality appears high and the USB recharge is a good feature. But at £95 for a front and rear set, they're expensive. I'm happy to pay for quality and believe you generally get what you pay for.

So, anyone got any thoughts on Knog? Are they worth the best part of £100, or are there better options out there?

I wouldn't buy knog again. I've not tried those specific lights but I wouldn't associate knog with quality.

Check the front light doesn't become red when the battery is getting low. Stupid design 'feature' of the light I have.

Most white LEDs are blue light coated with a red phosphor that converts part of the blue into red and makes the light look white. As the battery wears off, the voltage drops and less blue light is emitted and the portion of blue turned into red becomes higher, hence the red appearance... I would expect it to be mainstream... having done research in LED lighting for years, that's pretty much a given

Ugo. This is a separate red led to warn of low battery. No other led front light has ever had red visible in my experience.

I had a Knog Blinder rear light for a while. brightness was great, ease of use, good, recharging, fine. got it for £25 in the sale. sadly it orange lighted on me after 3 months meaning it wouldnt do anything, no charge, light or anything. i did get a refund from the retailer but it has put me off the brand for now. may try them again in the future as its that time of year to get spending again on lights.

i had some of the cheap strap on Knogs as emergency lights, went to use them for the 1st time and they'd turned themselves on in the saddlebag and run the battery down, spoke to knog on Twitter and they told me to email them.

Emailed them and they admitted this was a fault "Some of the earlier models of Frog Strobes did have a more sensitive on/off switch, however this has since been slightly modified to try and prevent this issue from occurring."

But they didn't offer to do anything after admitting their fault so I binned them and won't buy their brand again.
  • Really pleased with mine through last winter.
I'll know whether or not to recommend them when I get them out of hibernation in a few weeks time.

Also had problems with Knog blinders failing to hold charge after a couple of months. Wouldn't buy again.
Now use the Moon Comet rear. USB rechargeable. Superb light, would recommend.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
  • Just sent a note to them today. I've had two rear blinders in the last twelve months on both the rubbers straps have snapped. On the front the rubber strap has lost its tension to the the bar. Pity because I rate them but until they beef up the straps I couldn't buy another.

I went through 2 Knog Blinder Road Front 2 in the space of 8 months. The first one lasted 7 months before the silicon band that secures it to the helmet mount started to break so it went back to Evans and was replaced then the replacement did the same after 4 weeks so it went back for a refund.
Very bright light for the money but the silicon band let it down for me.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
  • Me and some of my mates have had several Knog lights over a span of a few years. Every one of them broke or failed in some way. They look great with their funky design, but they don't last.

Moon lights on the other hand have given me zero trouble, and I have five of them, various models. Fantastic products.

I rate them, £14 for a rear light is pretty good. It can be charged anywhere and will fit nicely onto seatposts.
haven't tried the front, but would be more suspicious, as the output is not likely to reach the strength for good visibility with white light.
