Ribble Cycles. . . . .again

Hi
I buy Cycling active most months, have done for a few years, I currently don't own a bike but I am looking at a road bike.
Ribble sparked my interest a few months back with the gran fondo advert - I bet we've all seen them because it's the first 2 page spread inside the cover, what really grated me then is the fact that I got to the point of ordering but couldn't find the wheels it was sitting on, but besides I only wanted those wheels for the bike as it looks.
Yesterday I got it again, if you look again it's the R872, I'm pretty sure if you go through the configuration online these wheels also aren't on the list but definitely not at that price.
Now my final gripe is on the front page of the website "the new 2015 sportive" - if you look it has zipp wheels - awesome . . . . carbon frame, forks and zipps for 899 (advert doesn't say those wheels aren't included), and it's only very small on the following page that it says shimano rs11
Personally I think this is wrong and potentially misleading, the bike displayed should be displayed representative of the 899 price and then state from, I wonder if anybody's actually been caught out from this at all.
Based on a search on here of Ribble prior to this post I think I'll be staying clear anyway

There is a caveat under the picture... but how hard would it be to have a picture of the actual product they are advertising with the correct parts fitted?!
That said, it's sexy in black and looks like a bargain!0 -
Yes it is frustrating and does get quite annoying when your trying to purchase.
However as an advertising tool it did it's job and made you go to their website, no different for car ad's on TV with a shiney new car and lots of gadgets and a tiny couple of seconds of disclaimer at the bottom of the ad that the car in the ad differs in spec.
Put it another way and look for the positive there are a lot of bike retailers who massivly discount using the pile em high sell em cheap ethos such as Planet X, ribble, Dolan. What your getting is still a good bike with excellent finishing gear and a very reasonable price.Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.0 -

Refer it to the ASA. Adverts must confirm to certain minimum standards and if there is an issue, the ASA will get on to Ribble.0 -

You'd have to be spectacularly stupid or spectacularly lacking in product knowledge to actually think you are going to get a bike with wheels that retail for about £1000 each for £899 the pair with a bike included.
Ribble play a bit of a game. More irritating than the above is how they increase the price of most of their products by 5% at the same time that they have a 10% sale. But it doesn't exactly take much effort to work this out and the prices are still excellent. But the option is always there to bite off your nose to spite your face.Faster than a tent.......0 -
I think that's the biggest issue though - not only are the wheels nigh on a grand, they are also not possible to choose !, surely even if the advert "passes" the ASA somehow the wheels should of at least been an option but, if you browse the configurator you'll see that it doesn't even allow you to select wheels.
Therefore the picture implys it has Zipp wheels, and these wheels are the only option, but it will arrive with Shimano RS11.

How does this picture imply it has Zipp wheels other than picturing them?

Obviously, the option should be there. If Ribble thinks it looks cool with Zipps then it makes logical sense to give people the option to buy it like that (though really, who would spec a £500 frame with £2000 wheels? I suspect that they are not listed as an option simply because it would be too silly - though in the Bike Builder you can spec Super Record which is also a bit OTT).
But if you are just getting into the sport then you aren't going to have any preconceptions about Zipp rims anyway so there's not much to fall for as such. You'd hope that you'd be having a detailed conversation with Ribble about every aspect of spec and fit and those 'really cool black wheels' would be quickly eliminated.
I think they shouldn't do this but it's surely hardly worth getting into a tizzy about?Iangurney wrote:Special Edition Summary

Yes - but you are quoting the options list - and there is no wheel option as you say. The standard stuff is listed separately.Ribble wrote:This one goes to 11
- 11 Speed Shimano 5800 STI Shifters, Front Derailleur, Rear Derailleur, Cassette and Chain.
- Ribble Press Fit Bottom Bracket
- Shimano RS500 (11 Speed) Compact Chainset, 172.5 34/50.
- Tektro R540 Brakeset
- Shimano 11 Speed RS11 Wheelset
The interesting thing is that they don't even give you an option on crank length! Rather unlike Ribble........Faster than a tent.......0 -

That ad clearly discrininates against people who can't read plain English..0 -

And they would be getting a bargain - the wheels are more appropriate for a beginner. You have the bike builder which allows you to customise your choice. Your assertion that Ribble have a bad reputation on this site is not entirely true. Do you work for any of Ribble's direct competitors by any chance?0 -
The wheel choice is clearly stated in the product description.

I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles0 -
Don't buy from Ribble. They are the worst company I've ever dealt with.0

Why not buy from ribble? I'm thinking about this bike for the mrs as it looks great for 899Cube agree pro 2013

Buy from Ribble they offer good quality products at very competitive prices and with mostly a great service.0

Never had a problem with them, even if they are from Lankyshire, they're pretty good. I think most right minded people would realise that the pictured bikes aren't the ones for 899 quid.0
