    The front mudguard is too short - it needs to be much longer than that to stop all the spray. Either a large mudflap is needed or bin them and get some SKS longboards (which are actually too long for some bikes, but you can replace the flap with a shorter one).

    And the back mudguard might keep you clean, but won't do much for anyone riding behind you.

    Definitely. It's amazing how many people put mudguards on and think 'job done'. If you draw a line from the tyre contact patch and draw it along the bottom edge of the mudguard and continue on, where the line meets the frame is the area that will get zero protection. For may installs I've seen, the only part of the front of the bike getting any protection is the underside of the fork and a bit of the top part of the downtube near the gusset.

    SKS Longboards are good, have them on two of my bikes.
