So, Canyon have released some of their 2015 range. In particular the Ultimate CF SL7 is published. Aside from the sheer beauty of the model on the web site - even tastier than the 2014 model - can anyone commenton the spec comparison? 2104 model is reduce by 100euro. How about the difference? Worth 100 or is 2014 really the bargain?

The new version has the newer 11 speed 105 5800, whereas it looks like the 2014 one has the 5700. So I would go for the 2015 version as a result, although that is partially offset by loss of Ritchey stem and handlebar.
Also note that in the 2015 version they have moved from compact to mid compact - 50/34 to 52/36.

Thanks - interesting. Do you think the stem and bar is a downgrade sufficient to worry about? Will the 11-speed over 10-speed even out the front change? How is your 9.0?

I doubt it very much. I think it should come down to whether you prefer Mavic or Shimano wheels, whether the extra cassette cog is worth it, and which colour you like best.

Are we to assume that the frameset is unchanged from the 2014 model?

I'd go for the latest version as the new 105 groupset is meant to be very good, plus I think it looks better. Also on the 2015 you get the GP4000s tyres which are well regarded.

Very pleased with mine, feels like a massive step up from my other road bike. Comfortable and very light, I don't have a bad word to say about it.

Likewise. I have the CF SL 9.0 too and I'm very happy with it. I'd go for the newer model based solely on the groupset. The newer 11 speed Shimano groupsets seem to be a significant improvement over previous models (in the cases of Dura-Ace and Ultegra) and if this trend has continued with 105 then that 's what I'd want. I'm very pleased with Ultegra 6800, the extra sprocket is nice, the smoother chainring change is very nice and reduced throws for rear de-railleur changes is nice too.

I don't think bar and stem brands are too important in the grand scheme of things and they're easy and relatively inexpensive to change later if you did have any regrets as compared to the groupset.
  • Any colour you want as long as its black or black with white decals

  • I'm not prepared to sign this in blood but I think the stem/bar combo may be produced by Ritchey under the Canyon label, so (perhaps) no loss whatsoever.
