Seems odd. I log in to the forum, or the website, without any apparent difficulty.
However, if I wish to post a comment on an article on the website, I have to log in using Facebook, Twitter or one of numerous other 'social media' logins. Why? What's wrong with just using my Bikeradar login?

There's no such thing as too old.

Quite. I don't use facef**k or twa**er, and I have no desire to link my private life to my business one by using LinkedIn. The more this site commercialises, the less likely I become to visit it.0

Agreed. If existing forum users are logged in with their forum usernames, it seems illogical (to put it politely) to make them log in again via a different method in order to post a comment on something which is on the site that they are already logged into. It sounds daft, because it is.
Comment fields seem dramatically under-used at the moment. There's probably a reason for that.0 -
It'll be because social reach is a metric they're using to assess articles, and they need to tie that to existing social media rather than site logins or the data is less valuable.
It's a reminder to us that if you're using a service which is free, it's not the product...you are.0 -

Less valuable than having no comments on most articles..?0
