Coming up to 1000 miles, what needs servicing?

I've almost done 1000 miles on my bike, do I need to service anything at this point? Wheels are new so no issues there. I clean my chain and cassette etc. regularly and re apply clean oil. Do I need to do anything with my crank or headset etc? To be honest everything feels better than it did when new and I want it to stay that way.

It sounds like you're already doing everything that is required. Clean and lubed is the path to happy, trouble-free cycling.

  • As long as everything is running fine, your gear changes are still crisp, then you don't need to do anything in particular except what you're already doing.

Don't get hung up on servicing. Bikes are very simple. All the LBS will probably do on a first service is make sure everything is tight and clean. As long as you keep things clean and oiled you will be fine.

I would only worry about headset or BB if you have been riding in the wet. Water can get thrown up from the fron wheel into the headset making the lower race bearing rust but if its factory greased its a minimal risk.

Just check things like brake cables, BB for signs of cracking or deformation. Rear derailleur can be neglected in the spring assy and jockey wheel bearings. But you sound like you have most the major stuff covered.
  • Thanks all. I clean it regularly with Baby Wipes which means I really give the frame and cables etc a close inspection as part of the cleaning.

One less thing to worry about!
