As the thread title really. Will SRAM Red brake calipers work with Shimano 105 levers (10 speed)?

Yes. I use the Red Aerolink brakes with Shimano.

    Sorry...... Confused by the question

Don't levers pull cable - calipers are pulled by cable

Why wouldn't any levers pull any calipers?

    Genuine question BTW

You do come across different pull ratios but not in this case and even when I have mixed ratios it makes squat difference to the braking, though some folk will tell you otherwise.

I was thinking the same but wanted to double check.

    Bozman - muchos gracias!

    Still not getting it.......

Pull ratios in relation to derailleur changes .....7,8,9 speed etc I understand

But pull ratios on calipers I don't understand - pad wear and the closeness adjuster cams on the calipers would override any pull ratio on the lever surely?

Sorry OP for the thread hijack..... I am in an inquisitive mood tonight :D
  • There are major differences in the pull ratios between different types of brake, such as Vee brakes and side-pull brakes. If you used a Vee brake lever with a calliper brake you'll probably snap a cable or break your calipers/ rim, and the other way round there isn't enough cable pull to provide any stopping force.

The other mechanisms such as normal side-pull, cantilever etc seem to be much of a muchness, which is why you can put cantilever brakes onto 'cross bikes with standard brake levers. You have to beware of cable disk brakes- they come in either the old vee brake pull or shorter "everything else".

Just changing your brand of calipers shouldn't make much of a difference at all to your braking. There is an exception with the new Ultegra/ Dura Ace which use different pull ratios again to everything else to provide the 'better' braking.
