Looking at pulling the trigger on a Rapha Winter Jersey for the commute. Any decent alternatives I should consider first?

It must be:

1. A jersey not a jacket
2. Windproof
3. In tasteful & subtle colours
4. Up to £150

Give me the good stuff people :-)

Rapha winter jersey is heavier and thicker than Gabba, but it maybe a bit warmer in cold conditions. Gabba has good aero fit and is thinner and less bulky material. I have a worn once Rapha Winter that I will probably sell sometime as I have two Gabba's and a few jackets. I still see them Rapha Winter Jersey and Gabba long sleeve as different items really though.

Used the DHB windslam all through last winter, sometimes with a merino baselayer sometimes not. Never had an issue being too hot or too cold. It was only available in black though which I wasn't particularly keen on for gloomy winter days, don't know if that's still the case

I was going to suggest the Gabba. I have the Rapha winter jersey too and it's also nice but probably less versatile than the Gabbas (short and long sleeved) I have. The only thing about the Gabba is that subtle colours doesn't really describe it - black or hi-viz are your options. That said, my Rapha jersey is the national colours - Dutch orange in my case 8)

I used one of those right through the winter, and it kept me warm and cosy, vents are useful for when it gets a bit warm, well made good fit, very happy with mine.

The new model of the Gabba is also in blue as well as black and super-bright yellow

I have the Rapha winter jacket which is pretty warm but there is no wind blocking material in the sleeves which can leave your arms chilly. I also have a Castelli Mortirolo jacket which has wind blocking material on the front of the jacket and the front of the sleeves. Both jackets breathe really well but I prefer the Castelli. You might be able to pick one up cheap as well as Castelli seem to be on sale at a few online retailers.

I think the fact that the arms are not windproof is a serious flaw, I have one I no longer use. The Castelli Espresso Due, is more versatile, and very warm. The Rapha pro team jacket has windproof front and arms (its really a Jersey)
  • +1 for the Castelli Espresso Due. Awesome piece of well made kit, ticks all the boxes.
