Replace cable only on 8 speed trigger - M310

Is it possible just to replace the cable on a shimano 8 speed trigger shifter - the M310 Altus model?

OEM cable has become very sticky in the cable housing, and whilst the trigger works fine I can't see an obvious way to unhook the cable from the trigger system so I can just replace the cable and the housing. Plus I can't find the 8speed trigger for a sensible price on ebay or other places.

Any help gratefully received!! (Which I suppose would include obvious replacement options for an 8 speed altus M310 shifter mechanism)

Thanks

Matt

There is a little bung opposite where the cable come out. Remove bung. Make sure the lever is in the highest gear (no tension) and poke it out.
