I have a Genesis Io 17.5"
I am looking for a steel bike with gears and similar geometry.
Think the Io Id might be a bit heavy if I choose to race it.
Can you please suggest suitable frames or bikes.

Why steel if racing? they give 1-2lbs in weight away to a good alu or carbon frame. XC racing?0

Quite simply I like steel frames0

Stick with the Genesis then, you won't get much lighter and for the cost you are probably better placed using the money elsewhere, or go Ti at least?Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Thanks I would keep the Genesis but I need gears0

No hanger I presume, but can be got around.
Otherwise a Cotic Soul, highly regarded frame. As are the old Rock Lobster 853.0 -
Sure no hanger,
The Cotic looks good0 -
Or a geared Genesis frame......
Though I think you are mad using steel for racing!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
