Are Cables just Cables?

Hello

Need a new set of cables for my 6700 shifters. I see they released new polymer-coated cables explicitly for the 6800 series. I however think these will probably work just fine? Few of the bits in the bag look differnt (end caps) but I supect it will all just work. Anyone tried?

Yes they will work fine. Any cheap cable would do the same job however the premium cables will give you optimum shifting.

Personally I would never use any kind of coated cable I'm sure eventually the coating must come off and I don't want it in my shifters. Good old SS is best.

The polymer coated cables seem a damn sight better to me.

night and day difference between cheap Shimano and top of the range Shimano.
I would only have the polymer coated ones now.
