Wheel issues!

Hiya!
Not sure if this post is in the right place, but hey-ho!
Rather in-advisably, I purchased a Carrera Crossfire 2 on a Cycle2Work scheme. Being relatively new to cycling (or rather, not having been on a bike since I was about 14) I thought "Hey! Hybrid? Road and off-road? Brilliant!" And worst come to worst I can always get some proper MTB tyres for it. So I thought.
My fellow bike owning friends (who all have MTB) are out and about around the local off-road routes, and my tyres just can't hack it! No trouble, 26" is a fairly universal size (was... at the time...) I'll pick up some knobbly MTB tyres and slap them on! But, woe is me; my Crossfire 2 has 28" wheels... And I cant find MTB tyres for that size - anywhere!
Now, my question is, is there a brand that make wheels to fit my rims. Or am I going to have to buy new rims (27.5" maybe?) and would they fit on the frame with minimal hassle?
Any advice on the matter (Other than "Don't buy a Hybrid if you wanna off-road") would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Ollie

sure they're 28"? More likely 29er, so plenty will fit. The size is nominal, not exact.I don't do smileys.

Yup - deffo 28s
Exact size from the original tyre: 28 1 and 5/8ths 1 and 3/4ths
Would 29s fit, you think?0 -
What model year is it do you know? Only crossfire I've found has 700c wheels, chain reaction have cyclocross tyres in that size or there's these, maybe a little narrow though.

Oh 700c rims are possibly the same size as 29" mtb rims (read on another forum so not 100%) however the rims may be narrower so possibly won't support as wide a tyre and also your frame may have clearance issues with wide mtb tyres fitted.0

That's the exact bike - if that helps at all?0 -
700c is the same as 29", so as long as they aren't too wide for the frame they'll be fine.I don't do smileys.

28" = 700c = 29er MTB = 622 ETRO which is the rim size standard. Depends on clearances, but there are hundreds of tyre choices available as long as it has 622 on the sidewall - the rest is mainly marketing bolloxMake mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

So would these fit? I have some bits to return so halfords would be handy!0 -
They'll fit the wheel - if that'll then fit in the frame is the thing.0
