Not a problem, I've been waiting for them but going to see how I get on without for now.0 -
Got the rear brake hose routed properly now, just going to have a quick ride to check I'm happy with the gear indexing before trimming the cable.
Here's how it looks now

Change the seat clamp to a bolt up one in black and changed back to th original giant grips for a more 'stealthy' look.
May need to look at removing the bb and switching a spacer to the non drive side but will see how I get on first.0 -

I actually adore this bike, wish I could have waited six months instead of getting my Jekyll. Looks epic all blacked out2014 Giant Trance 27.5 1

Thanks, I'm liking the way it looks, although the snow probably makes it look even better. The new brakes are so much better than the old ones.
Pretty happy with how the bike is now, especially on my budget. Just need to improve the ability of the rider now to match the bike.0 -
Really well so far, not done any big climbs yet though. In my opinion there's a small amount of guess work in choosing the ring size anyway, especially coming from a double. Went for a 32, will see how it suits me and adjust from there.0
-
No, just shorter bolts, the chain line is a little extreme in the big cog on the back but if I'm honest I've not checked what it's like in the smallest cog, I'm likely to swap the spacer on the bb to the non drive side in the future.0

Well the giant p-xc2 wheel set was always intended as a cheap and temporary upgrade. After pretty much being set on some hope tech enduros I've ended up getting a flow ex on hope pro 2 Eco rear for a very good price, so the front will follow shortly and then I think I'll be all but done, possibly getting slik to knock up some new decals for the wheels in some sort of stealth look but no rush for that.0
-
Well with a baby coming soon I've decided to push my plans for the bike along a little before I have no money. Wasn't planning on new wheels for quite a while but I broke.
Gone with Flow EX rims on Hope Pro 2 Evo hubs, I know they're not everybody's cup of tea but I chose them over the tech Enduros as I got them at a very good price plus I liked the older Flows on my last bike.
Sorry about the poor quality of the photo but I'm at work, so it's the best I can manage for now.0 -

I just couldnt hold out, ive just snapped up the trance 1 from pauls for £1550. feel like a kid waiting for xmas now lol. When you brought yours did it come with the 142mm rear conversion kit?2014 Giant Trance 27.5 1

No unfortunately not, it's on my list of things to do now I've got a wheel set I can change to 142x12. I've got an eBay listing for the kit saved if you want a link, doesn't include the skewer though, I've also got a link to the parts catalogue if you need too.0

Quick update, after a skills course and more rides, I'm loving this bike more and more, hitting things I never thought I could and with confidence, even entered an XC race on it (not my normal idea of fun but it was a paid day out of work on the bike), lost out massively on the climbs (there was another Trance there struggling with them too) but I was one of the few taking the 'A' lines and vnot many could stay with me on the downs.
Considering switching to 1x11 in the future (looking at XT), using an 11-42 cassette and keeping the current cranks and narrow wide chainring.
Also looking at trying the new nobby nic when the XR4s are done (heard that they perform similarly to the hans da of but are lighter).0 -
Not a huge fan of the stealth look on most bikes, but loving yours!Check out my blog for my views and reviews: http://memylifeandmybike.blogspot.co.uk/0

Thanks, love the way it looks but more importantly how it rides.
The switch to 1x11 has started, now got a medium cage 11 speed XT rear mech on back order, the rest will be ordered soon too.0 -
Well while I'm sat in hospital I might as well update this a little.
Now got the XT 11-42 cassette ordered with the rest getting ordered this week. Possibly going to order the new XT 1x crankset, partly because I have a little OCD about my drivetrain all being the same and also with the SLX stuff going on to the Voodoo at some point I wanted I might as well move the crankset across too while I can get the XT crankset for under £80.
Got a couple of cheap used bars to try too, currently got a 750mm exotic carbon bar fitted with 15mm rise. Seems pretty good so far and is a good chunk lighter than the giant bar. I was apprehensive about using a used carbon bar but it's only temporary, if I like it I'll get a new one and if not I'll try something different.0 -
That's me now 1x10.
Weight saved:
Chainrings 120g (old rings and bolts 180g - new ring and bolts 60g)
Front mech 170g
MRP 2X chain device 120g
Front shifter and cable 210g
Gives a nice 520g saving but more importantly a much setup and less cluttered bars.
At the same time I've fitted an ispec b SLX front shifter and slx brakes.
Not quite finished yet, need to index the rear mech and I need a new rubber plug for the internal routing to route the rear brake.
Great looking bike, and hope you are feeling better since your last post, how much did it cost to make the change to 1x10? Just put the deposit down on a Trance.. thanks!0 -

Thanks, feel much better after a week in Wales with the bike, felt much more at home on the Reds and blacks than in an XC race.
It would cost about £31 to convert to a 1x setup, you should just need a narrow/wide ring and a set of single ring chainring bolts, although I could of probably re used the original bolts as the granny on my 2x setup used its own bolts. I used these

Got a 50mm Pro FRS stem on the way, fancied trying something a little. Once the XT drivetrain has arrived I'm probably done with any major changes. I'd still like a Pike at some point but the revelation is performing well so there's no rush.0

Thanks, would fitting fitting a larger chainring (40T+) require replacing a lot more components?
(I have a 2015 Trance Advanced 2)

It shouldn't do. Narrow wide rings that size are rarer, not sure if superstar do one but I know raceface do.
Seems a bit of an odd choice to be putting on a chainring that big, goes against what the bike was designed to do really but each to their own.0 -

Thanks, out of curiosity, why do you say that? (Just got back into MTB, so curious what beginner error I might be making..)0 -
It's a big chainring, it's bigger than the big ring on your existing 2x set up. Will give a good speed on the flat etc but will make climbing very difficult.0

You won't be getting up any hills with a 40t single ring. 30t-36t is standard for a single ring set up, most people go for 32t or 34t.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

I think you mean fitting a 40t cassette expander and a single front chainring.
As long as you 10 speed cassette is compatible then the ex panders are around £30 and the n/w chainring usually between 32-36t are around £25.0 -
Now got an XT 11-42 cassette, KMC 11 speed chain, XT medium cage mech and a 32T XT chainring in my possession.
Ordered a bar mount rear XT shifter which should arrive tomorrow to use while I wait for the I Spec B version to be released too.
Still waiting for my new XT cranks which currently have an ETA of September according to CRC (but so did the chainring) but once the shifter arrives I'll crack on with fitting the XT parts.0
