Should I buy a 29er?

I think this would be more entertaining here than in buying advice. Also after the "this forum is shoot" thread somebody said they missed the "What BMW 335d should I buy" threads. So as the title says really:
I think I might buy one of these:

I reckon a 29er would be good for me becuase I tend to go for longer rides and not particularly technical stuff. I'm quite tall so surely bigger whells make more sense on bigger bikes. I don't really do trail centres other than the odd trip to Swinley after work. If I got a 29er the wheels would be interchangeable with my Kinesis CX. And I rather like it.
Also, what should I kit it with? I was thinking 2x10 XT & Rock Shox Rebas. Not sure about wheels yet, might build my own, Hope hubs or Novatech?

Don't let Arran see this, he'll wet himself.

The only 29'er wheels that are acceptable are on a roadie bike...if you buy this bike, you will go to hell :) And it looks gash, like somebody glued some drinking straws together and painted them a right girly colour.

It's partly personal preference and partly where you ride. I have an XC 29er hardtail which I find good for trail centres and also XC riding in the wilds. Being over 6ft6 the bike fits me well , climbs well and handles well for my needs. Before this bike I had a 26er which served me equally well for years. If I had the choice I would pick the 29er.

As for kit Reba's will do you well any anything slx or above works well. I have XT disc brakes which are a big improvement over the exlixir 1's they replaced.

We're all going to hell anyway, just got to enjoy the ride. Nice smooth ride with big wheels.

Fair point, but would a roadie not have to own a road bike? Maybe I'm just in denial and really want to wear lycra and lube my aris'.

If you want to ride your bike and go fast, then yes, perfect bike for places like Swinley.

If you want to fit in with all the other 'cool' kids here, then no. Simples!

There's far too many people with inferiority complexes here, bless 'em! I reckon there's a huge number of homos in denial too.

I have 29ers, they're fast and fun. my ones have bouncy bits too but have proper sized tubes made out of American Aluuuuminummm but apart from that its great.
Hell is where its at anyway, much warmer and no god bothering weirdos.

Have a look also at the On-one Parkwood, looks like a interesting frame, if it was a bolt through rear i'd buy one as i have spare forks, wheels etc.

Well aware, not sure that comments outing all the gays in denial on here would be appropriate for Buying Advice.

Still, can add stupid to "in denial about their sexuality" to the list of traits exhibited by folk here.

Huh? It was in your comment :? you wouldnt have had to include that in the comment about the inferiority complexes and cool kids (which I was referring to - pretty obvious) in buying advice.

But I like the blue one. And everybody on here says Orange bikes are shoot, except those that bought one and they reckon they are the greatest thing since the invention of the wheel. So they are the biggest load of shoot since the invention of the wheel if you believe what you read on here. And obviously it's all true.
Besides, the Cotic is only in blue or green and I've already got a green bike.

A blue Cotic, now we're talking 8) I could overlook the fact that its a ghey 29er on this occasion

But your sig says you have an Orange bike. How go you tell the black bikes apart? Red bikes are faster, obviously. Even red bits make things go faster. Did you ever see a Ford Escort with red brake drums and calipers? They were always faster. Or was it they were always driven by twunts?

i am so confused, good point about cars though, mine is black and very slow, think the red paint may be coming out this weekend. could do the calipers on the orange orange red to see if that will go quicker, not that i ride it or anything!
