Wild, Vos, Bronzini, Johansson perhaps. Others will know more than me though.

Armistead possibly? Bronzini and a Wild are probably the top specialists though.

Who are the other decent sprinters?

    Chloe Hosking...Why are you asking??

I'm curious because you really aren't going to get anywhere in Women's cycling at a UCI level without some halfway decent sprint since pretty much all the parcours consist of variations of sprints or hilly sprints...

Other riders might be Jolien D'hoore, Evelyn Stevens has beaten Lizzie Armitstead this year in a sprint...

From the Brits, Lucy Garner and Hannah Barnes are both decent but still quite young.

    Is there a ranking anywhere?

CQ Ranking do the same ranking for women as they do for men - not sprint specific though. You can do head-to-head comparisons of riders and specify sprint stages.

I'm trying to work out who the candidates will be for the top 10 in the Sparkassen Giro tomorrow.

Just find the starters who are the highest ten on CQ Ranking and you won't be far wrong.

Since it’s a World Cup race, ambitions in that direction may play as big a role as who the best sprinters are, especially since Armitstead will be missing, e.g. I would expect Johansson and Van der Breggen to be up there at the finish.

Brennauer (4th in La Course) would be a good outsider bet.

Women's races tend to be won by the strongest riders rather than specialist sprinters. The strength in depth is so limited the races I've seen rarely finish in a big bunch.

    Who else but …

    1. Marianne Vos (Rabobank Liv)

    Followed by

    2. Giorgia Bronzini (Wiggle Honda), whose birthday it was
    3. Lotta Lepistö (Bigla)
    4. Jolien D'Hoore (Lotto Belisol)
    5. Lisa Brennauer (Speciliazed-Lululemon)
  • Marianne Vos at the Eroica with Giancarlo Brocci

w/kg? Vos about 380watts and 58kg; not sure if this is threshold or probably a shorter figure. Ferrand-Prevot must be around the same. Frederic Grappe said PFP had lost about 6kg this season (she is much skinnier than last year) and maintained her power so can turn a 1 cog bigger gear at the same cadence when climbing an 8% slope.

Emma Pooley (50kg) has been estimated at 5w/kg when she set a 49 m climb of alpe d'Huez after 3 hard days in the Alps.

Don't think that 380w@58kg would be threshold, I know she is good but that would be higher than the top guys. In racing and training with a power meter, they have a power chart and top world class for men ftp is 6.40 and for women it is 5.69.

Shelley Olds is a better sprinter than Armitsead, but Amitstead's all-round ability means she's more likely to be contesting a sprint finish.

That sounds about right. Lance was estimated at 6.4w/kg for his 37.5 minute ITT up ADH in 2004 and as speed uphill is pretty much directly proportional to w/kg, a 49m ascent equates to approximately: 37.5 / 49 * 6.4 = 4.9w/kg.

That puts her into male the Cat 1 racer bin. The best women are supposed to put out in the 5.6w/kg range according to Coggan but Pooley is/was one of the best female climbers, she could certain leave Vos on the hills as can Abbott. BTW Abbott has signed for Wiggle Honda, it will be good for her to spend more time in Europe and it is a bit of a coup for Rochelle Gilmour.

Not necessarily. Quite a bit of depth in Holland with a decent number of women's teams. And plentty of flat (obviously) races ending in bunch sprints.
Kirsten Wild is a sprinter. Belgian Jolien D'Hoore too

There's your answer then. Of course the absolute numbers will be lower than most amateur men due to women generally being very much lighter than blokes.
