this is now my closest and easiest to access place to ride on this years holiday.
can it be done on a hard tail or is it just too hard for them?
i'm not a jump lover so will be looking at fast xc and quick top to bottom routes that don't involve launching 40 + feet

There is some xc riding in the bike park.

Im positive you will find more than enough with a map and compass away from the bike park as well.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Buy the french equivalent of an OS map for the area (there are good bookshops in UK that sell them - one in Covent Garden for sure if you are near there) - anything with a solid red line is good to go, dashed red line maybe ride-able....Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0

not the best place for a hardtail/XC that's for sure, super steep over there and not many 'XC' trails. Where you staying?
I live in Serre Chevalier which is about an hours drive from L2A and there's def a few more XC-friendly routes over here...

If you're over there I would head to Villard-de-Lans then. Much gentler mountains but also some gnar if you want it and nearer than L2A. Nice little village too.

Montgenevre has great little bike park. Lifts open last weekend of June so everything generally shut up there til then but yeah, you could've got a bike in Villeneuve for sure"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

I walked up past the Montgenevre park and it didn't look massive but came across some great looking trails on the other side of the valley. I'll have to plan a trip in July/August next year!YT Wicked 160 ltd

They do a massive mountain bike festival each year. Here's the video for this years event;
