Is the Cervelo Rca still the most expensive off the shelf frame set? £7499 here:

To be sure, we should really get a quote on the UKSI Aero Road Frame they used in the Olympics, and had to make available for sale to comply with the UCI regs:

Probably a good source of other expensive components, too.

("Although most of this expenditure has been absorbed by the GB Team, the very low volumes of equipment produced, the the construction methods outlined above plus the use of the very best materials means the price of these items is in line with their specialist nature.").

We might need to demonstrate we're serious about buying one to get a price out of them - VTech, would you like to handle this?

I had looked into that but thought it's probably too bespoke to comply with the rules with it being £POA and made to order.

I have no intention of ever riding it which to some will be a sin but to others who collect/appreciate things they will hopefully agree.
I like things, different things, things that I would never use but can appreciate. I collect what I can afford but sadly most of the things I want are beyond my reach. Magpie syndrome.
I'd rather have a bike hanging on my wall than a lot of multi million pound paintings. So, why not. A friend of mine keeps a Ducati 851 in his living room, even starts it occasionally if he's taking it out for a ride.

If I were going to hang a bike on my wall in the name of art I think I would pick a bike with some history like Pantani's Bianchi - last non carbon frame to win le tour or one of Eddie Merckx bikes. A POS with Aston Martin written down the side and weighing more that a halfords special is not art no matter the supposed price.

Not seen much bar tape pricier than this.

Also, as a track bike you are more limited in other stuff you can put on it to really bang up the price.

There's a road frame as well as the track frame.

I only assumed it would always cost more building from the components, as opposed to a full bike. Aston Martin might have a £25,000 complete bike, but when there's those Garmin pedals at £1300 etc this is the question lol. Do the Aston Martin tyres cost $500 each like those ones posted?

Breaking it all down I found there's only about 30 to 35 components on a bike (counting wheelset as one thing). Or about 40 if you break the wheels down to rims/spokes/nippes/hubs/tape.

The thing with that Aston Martin bike is that it's just a re-badged Factor 001 which was purely a technical exercise. Most of that bike comprised of propriety components so they could have put pretty much put any price tag on it they liked; there was nothing directly comparable to act as a benchmark.

The 001 was mooted to cost £20,000 so it would seem writing Aston Martin on the side of it is worth about five grand.

I guess we'll need some wheels. The Lew Racing custom jobs that usually come up in this sort of discussion (£10,000+) don't seems to be available any more, but I found these Reynolds wheels on sale at Fatbirds for a mere £4,500:

    Pah, cheap tat :)

This one costs $1m for the whole bike - not sure how much the frame only would be but coated in 24ct gold and with 1,100 diamonds and sapphires it's not gonna be cheap.

It might be a good idea to list all the components and keep a running track of the most expensive?

I also thing we should look to cloth the rider of said bike with the most expensive cycling clothing conforming to the same rules, i.e. no diamond studded gloves or gold plated carbon soles.
