Stage 1: Saturday 9 May, TTT Riviera dei Fiori
Stage 2: Sunday 10 May, Albenga–Genoa
Stage 3: Monday 11 May, Chiavari–La Spezia
the Inner Ring @inrng 18m
2015 Giro to start with team time trial on Sanremo cycle path. Better than it sounds, on wide old railway track and with 'Merckx' tunnel
Love this area - Genoa is a bit nutz. I nearly got knifed on a beach round there because a guy thought I was looking at his wife sunbathing.

I'm not a fan of opening with a TTT.
So, this begs the question - were you looking at her?0 -

Only about 6 weeks ago the rumour was that the Giro 2015 would start in Milan!
Stage 3 could follow much of the route used by the GF delle Cinque Terre, in which case it would be like the Sheffield Tour stage.
One third week stage is supposed to finish at the top of Monte Piana, near the Tre Cime di Lavaredo and Lago di Misurina. Its climb includes 3 km at 11-12%.
The Giro finish is said to be set for Turin, with one of the last stages going over the Colle delle Finestre (possibly from the south side).
When Pantani won the Tour, next year the Giro went through his home town, Cesenatico, so there is some conjecture whether it will try and go through Nibali’s home town, Messina on Sicily, in 2015.0 -

Oh man, that bike path holds some very bad memories - probably still soaked in my wife's blood! Don't think I'll get a pass to visit that one, even though its down the road from her parents' place (assuming they haven't sold it by then).0 -
I hope they go up the climb above the Poggio again, would love to see that.
Cinque Terre = happy days as well0 -

If they want to secure Nibali's presence, that's the way to do it. But it's hard to think of a Giro that starts north, then goes all the way to Sicily and then comes back north... if they want to include Sicily it has to start there or they have to break the routine and make it finish there. Plane transfer from Pisa? - then work way back up from Sicily to Dolomites - now that is a ride! I would like to see more in Puglia - but there seems a trend to work through the south quickly - the commentator last year alluded to it - almost saying the south is not capable of hosting0 -

59km time trial!!! Old-skool, I like it. Might be enough to dig Bradley out of retirement?0

Love the Giro. Would be great to see all of the big names slugging it out.0

If there is a huge TT could Froome be tempted to do the double? Imagine the weather would put him off.0

Of course it's irrelevant.
A 60km ITT is not going to influence Froome's goal one little bit."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
Stage to La Spezia - great! Possibly my favourite stage ever was in the 1989 Giro, which finished with Fignon winning in La Spezia in the Maglia Rosa from a very select group which flew down the descent to the finish at terrifying speeds.0

Only 5 MTFs next year, but more medium hills, I would say."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
Finestre's back... 8)It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0

Not as mountainous as previous years, and only one stage over 2000m. Nice to see the Mortirolo back, but it certainly seems less brutal than previous editions. Maybe it's a route designed to attract some of the big guns?0
-
In one graphic for lazy people like me (The TT is 59km - not as long as the graphic makes out)

It looks to me like it's designed to tempt Bertie and Nibs into a crack at the Giro-Tour double0

I thought a "balanced route" was Tour code for boring? :P
I'm liking the early, hilly stages, but a most of the actual mountain finishes have pretty shallow gradients.
It's the sort of route that could go either way.
It needs the Mortirolo and Colle delle Finestre to be raced early and aggressively, which may not happen if one rider dominates."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
Lovely route by the looks of it. Balanced, with hilly stages and descents to the finish line.
Not having any more of that disgracefully 3km racing that Unipublic delivers.0 -
